167½ 17th Avenue, San Mateo, California is the apartment where the group who would become The Residents began their earliest experiments with recording and music performance. The group moved into the apartment in 1968.
The Residents left San Mateo in 1972, for a former print-works located at 20 Sycamore Street, San Francisco which became the location of their recording and film studios until 1976.
