Black Tar and the Cry Babies is a compilation album by Black Tar and the Cry Babies, a Residents off-shoot project formed by Charles Bobuck and Hardy Fox.
The compilation was released in a limited edition of 300 on October 18th 2019 on Klanggalerie, as part of the TOOK series of limited edition releases.
History[]
Black Tar and the Cry Babies was a project formed by Charles Bobuck and Hardy Fox (as well as other members of The Residents). This group released their music online around Halloween beginning in 2015 with the Season of the Witch EP, followed two years later by Left With The Fires - both of which are represented on this compilation album.
The Black Tar EPs were generally released in order to raise money for needy projects (poverty, mass destruction in fire, and anti-Donald Trump campaigns). Left With The Fires was originally published for free on Hardy Fox's webpage.
Another six songs were later released (which can be heard on the Tarnation compilation album) but do not feature here, as according to Klanggalerie owner Walter Robotka, "these were ironic soundclips often not even using Hardy's own music".
