Chicken Scratching with The Residents is a 2010 limited edition download-only compilation mini-album by The Residents, sold during their Talking Light tour via a web link printed on a dog-tag.
History[]
Chicken Scratching with The Residents is an item sold on The Residents' 2010 Talking Light tour on a red-ink dog-tag (similar to the earlier release Dogtag), which includes a web address and code to download a compilation of the group's music.
The mini-album collects several short unfinished instrumental pieces recorded by The Residents dating from 1985 to the then present. It also includes three longer pieces, Centerless, Menu Music & Pink, the latter of which contains samples from the group's then unreleased Warner Brothers Album, most notably nonsensical vocals from 'In The Still In The Night Again'
Following the tour, some additional copies were sold by Ralph America.
Track Origins[]
'Why Didn't I Think Of That' is part of the The History of Digital Music series of recordings, made in 1985 for a high school class. A 0:55 second excerpt was included on the 1990 compilation album Stranger Than Supper, with this version including 29 seconds cut from that version.
'The Toy Factory' and 'Ghost Music' originally appeared on the 1990 'Don't Be Cruel' EP as untitled hidden tracks. They were first given their official names when they were previously released digitally as a free download in December 2007 via the group's official blog.[1]
'The Eye's Scream' was recorded in 1991 for the documentary of the same name.
Legacy[]
The Eyes Scream was later included on Freak Show pREServed.
