Commercial Book is a collection of short stories by British writer Andrew Hook, published March 15th 2024 by Psychofon Records and the Eyeball Museum.

Hook's second book inspired by the work of The Residents (following the 2020 N. Senada biography O for Obscurity, Or, The Story of N), the forty stories in Commercial Book are based on (and titled after) the forty songs of The Residents' Commercial Album (released in 1980). Mirroring the album's concept of songs exactly one minute in length, each of the book's stories is exactly one thousand words in length.

The book was "fully endorsed" by The Residents, who are said to have found the stories "with little to no exception... delightful".[1] Commercial Book went on pre-sale on February 21st 2024, and was released March 15th via Psychofon Records and Eyeball Museum.

A limited, hand-numbered "special edition" of the book was also released, featuring a bonus CD, Commercial Album Radio Ads, featuring the mono "commercial" mixes of the Commercial Album songs which were sent to radio at the time of the album's release, in special packaging, with a stick of Residents-branded, "Perfect Love flavour" "Commercial Gum" hidden within a "secret compartment". The special edition had sold out by the end of March.[2]

Commercial Album Radio Ads[]

Commercial Album Radio Ads is a bonus CD included with the limited special edition of Commercial Book, featuring the mono "commercial" mixes of the forty songs from The Residents' Commercial Album, with original spoken announcements included.

A handful of these mixes (specifically the selections that are highlighted on The Residents' 1980 Commercial Single) had been released previously in July 2023, on a limited white-label 7" included with early copies of the pREServed expanded vinyl edition of Commercial Album.

A small number of leftover copies of the Radio Ads CD were sold separately by Psychofon in June 2024, in basic black jewel cases with no additional artwork other than a Psychofon Records sticker on the back.
