Cry For The Fire is a track from The Residents' 1985 album The Big Bubble.
According to the in universe credits featured on the back sleeve of the album, the song was written by Frank Leone and Ramsey Whiten. Leone is the fictional guitarist of The Big Bubble, and Whiten is the lead vocalist and percussionist.
History[]
In the universe of The Mole Trilogy, the song is meant to be an anthem for The Big Bubble, a band of Mole/Chub hybrids known as Cross.
The song begins as sung in English, but eventually transitions into the Moles' native Mohelmot language, in a powerful move. Within universe, it is considered a political anthem for Cross', and Moles.
Within reality, the song represents The Residents' reaction to their recent bankruptcy following their Mole Show international tour.
It was performed as the final song (not including encores) to The 13th Anniversary Show, from 1985 to 1987, providing a dramatic finale to the show. The Singing Resident would appear on stage with fake ears, a wig, heavy makeup, and a yellow jacket.
In October 2023, a "cayenne-based" hot sauce named after the song was released by El Enojado as an official collaboration with The Residents. The sauce's label features a unique artwork by Porneaux Graphics.
