Cube-e Dynasone 3EZ is a part studio, part live album by The Residents, first released December 21st 2011 through the Robot Selling Device as a Christmas gift to fans. The album started life in 2000 as the 'definitive' Cube-E album, and utilised an experimental mastering software titled Dynasone, but was shelved for eleven years after it was wrongly believed the files master files had been corrupted.
History[]
Development[]
Between 1988 and 1990, The Residents performed their Cube-E show 80 times across the world, resulting in two live albums, (Cube-E, and Bucakroo Blues & Black Barry) as well as two studio albums (The King & Eye and Buckaroo Blues) based on selections from the show.
Despite this, The Residents felt that there was no 'definitive' Cube-E album, and in 2000, began using an experimental mastering programme titled 'Dynasone' to construct such a thing, combining the best studio and live recordings of the material. The album never saw fruition, and their master CD-R became corrupted. It wasn't until 2011, when Will Rothers re-discovered the project files for the album, and began exporting them.
The group's 2006 Cube-E album, fulfils a similar role as the 'definitive' Cube-E album, featuring the audio of an entire show, as well as all footage shot of the tour.
Release[]
The album was released as a digital exclusive on December 21st, 2011 through The Residents' Robot Selling Device web-store. The release was announced that same day on their Residents.com website; it was not promoted on their social media. It was made available for $5, (a slight discount compared to RSD's usual album prices), as Hardy Fox (under the pseudonym Big Brother) stated that "my repair work reduces its value." It was available only for a limited time, as Fox was 'seriously proposing to Cryptic that this recording should see full release.' The release was available for at least seven months. It was later re-released on The Residents' Bandcamp on May 26th, 2015, remastered and featuring new artwork. This version featured the entire 17 track album divided across 4 tracks. This was removed around July of 2016. Currently, "Black Barry" is the only mix from the album officially available, as it appeared on the 2020 Cube-E box.

Liner notes[]
"Undeniably one of The Residents optimal work was CUBE E, but as can happen when a project covers so many different media types and recordings, there has never been the recording - the album - that brings the project into a whole.
Some time ago I had run into a recording experiment where the group had compiled an album that represented the various aspects of this very sophisticated and complex project. Unfortunately not only was the album never released, but the CDR they had burned of the project had become corrupted during storage and was not playable as it stood.
One thing that set this experiment apart was the fact that they had tested a new piece of software (new in 2000, no longer made) called Dynasone. Dynasone was a mastering program that used complex digital calculations to enhance and restore recordings.
I had long written off the collection of recordings as worthless. Until last week. I ran into a disk of working files used in the creation of the damaged CD. The disc was marked "Dynasone 3EZ" so I checked it and found pristine mixes from the work. Not all the recordings were there, so it was a bit of a disappointment, but I have attempted to restore the missing pieces.
The recordings draw on all aspect of the CUBE E era. However it is more than a compilation, it has an astounding sound that should should be heard on headphones or in surround.
I am pleased to announce the addition of "Dynasone 3EZ" to RSD for a limited time. I am doing it for a limited time as i am seriously proposing to Cryptic that this recording should see full release.
Additionally I am making it available for $5.00 as I anticipate my repair work reduces its value. But I am hoping that the Residents will revisit this collected project idea.
CUBE E project started in the late '80's."
