Faceless Forever - A Residents Encyclopaedia is a hardcover encyclopedia about The Residents, by Jim Knipfel and Brian Poole (with contributions from Chris Combs, Paulie Kraynak, Andreas Mathews of the Eyeball Museum, Richard Anderson, and The Residents themselves), released in an edition of one thousand copies,[1] exclusively via mail order, through Cherry Red Records on December 9th 2022.
A hardcover encyclopedia with 294 pages featuring more than five hundred entries, covering "every release, every tour, key collaborators, lesser-known curiosities, niche trivia and minutiae from the periphery of the group's universe", Faceless Forever is part of a series of 2022 releases by The Residents highlighting their 50th Anniversary, and is officially sanctioned by The Cryptic Corporation.
The book became available for pre-order on October 21st alongside the single "Santa Dog 2022", the book and single were also available together in a bundle. It shares a name with The Residents' 50th Anniversary tour, which officially premiered in Europe and the United Kingdom in February and March 2023.
Faceless Forever and this wiki[]
Faceless Forever's acknowledgements section includes The Cryptic Corporation's first public acknowledgement of the unofficial, fan-sourced Meet The Residents Wiki. The book refers to the wiki as "remarkable" and "invaluable", and recommends that readers "throw this book to the floor and head there immediately".[2]
The administrative team behind the wiki, The Mysterious Spanish Ladies, received this appraisal with delight, surprise and gratitude (although The Ladies always recommend careful handling of important resource materials such as Faceless Forever). Reportedly at least one Mysterious Spanish Lady was generously offered a free copy of the book by a representative of Cryptic, but declined the offer as they had already ordered it.[3]
In a development which The Ladies found particularly gratifying, The Residents themselves are noted to have referred to the wiki while compiling the book, in order to fill "gaps in [their] collective hive memory".[2]
