"Fear for the Future" is the tenth track from The Residents' thirteenth studio album, The Big Bubble.

Background[]

This track is notable for being the only of it's kind on The Big Bubble, as it is an entirely instrumental track. This gives the listener a brief reprieve from the aggressive vocals from the rest of the album, before finishing the album with Kula Bocca Says So.

Unlike the fiery passion of the other songs on the record, which were all driven by their vocal performance, Fear for the Future is slow and melancholy. Within the Mole Trilogy, this song was written and recorded by the members of The Big Bubble, as a slow, circumspective tune, which represents the anxiety and dread within the group regarding the infighting between the Moles, Chubs, and Zenkenites, and how it would affect the inhabitants of Chubville.
