Hydrogen Kaleidoscope is an album by David Janssen (half of the English avant-garde duo Renaldo & The Loaf), under the guise of his ambient solo project The Darkening Scale. It was self-released in MP3 format in 2010.

"Riding The Bull Horn" was originally intended for another of Janssen's musical projects, The Tapeworm Vessel with pianist Sylvie Walder. Walder appears on the version featured on the album.

In 2022 an alternative version of the album was issued on CD by Austrian label Klanggalerie; this version (featuring only four tracks from the original version of the album) is said by Janssen to "(re-examine) the material" from Hydrogen Kaleidoscope and Secondhand Muon in order to make a "revised 'best of' version of the two releases".
