Meet The Residents Wiki

Kula Bocca Says So is the final track from The Residents' 13th studio album The Big Bubble. It is sung from the perspective of the fictional band The Big Bubble, comprised of the mixed-raced offspring of the Moles and Chubs featured in Mark of the Mole.

Background[]

One of three songs referencing the storyline presented on the album's liner notes, 'Kula Bocca Says So' directly refers to the character of Kula Bocca, a second generation of Mole/Chub 'cross' official of the 'Zinkenite' movement, calling for the declaration of a new Mohelmot nation, who had faced generations of oppression within the land of the chubs.

Within the brief narrative shown on The Big Bubble's liner notes, Kula Bocca utilizes The Big Bubble in order to stir up support for the Zinkenite movement (perhaps mirroring the role of Malcolm McLaren in the promotion of the Sex Pistols.) Kula staged the singer's arrest, organized the release of their album, and used their energetic politically charged anthems during his rallies. The song showcases the group's connection to Bocca's movement; the lyrics tell the audience that it's time to 'go home.'

'Kula Bocca Says So' is one of 4 Big Bubble demos featured on the Mole Box, taking the form of a 2 minute 2 track acapella demo. Different demos of 'Kula Bocca Says So' have leaked online. The studio version features backing vocals by Ray Hannah, Brain Seff & Raoul N. Di Seimbote, the latter of which had been working with the group since the Satisfaction single.

Within a year of the song's release, 'Kula Bocca Says So' was featured on the Heaven? best of album, although it hasn't been featured on any later 'Best Of' sets, such as 80 Aching Orphans.
