DotCom

dot.com, 2000

Since pioneering the medium with the 1999-2000 free release of tracks on the official Ralph America website, The Residents have occasionally chosen to release music for free through their official online platforms as a means of rewarding the interest of fans. Many of these free releases are only available for a limited time.

This tendency has continued into the present day and has resulted in collections such as dot.com, The 12 Days of Brumalia and Summer Tunes. The group's ongoing free release series, titled Free! Weird!, regularly offers images, videos and audio files from The Cryptic Corporation archive.

Individual members of the group (such as Randy Rose and Charles Bobuck) have also continued this pattern; Rose has released solo demos by leaking them directly to fan pages on Tumblr, and Bobuck regularly released free tracks via the Hacienda Bridge email newsletter.
