Steve, Vileness Fats
Saint Steven (alternatively Saint Steve or often simply Steve) is the protagonist and hero of The Residents' unfinished feature film Vileness Fats, shot by the group from 1972 to 1976. Steve is the spiritual leader of the town of Vileness Flats, who lives with his mother.
Steve falls in love with the Indian priestess Weescoosa at first sight, however his attempts to court her are complicated by his split personality, the film's primary villain Lonesome Jack. In his guise as Lonesome Jack he is the fearsome leader of the Bell Boys, a gang of rebels intent on invading and robbing the village.
In the film both Steve and Lonesome Jack are portrayed by Jay Clem. As with most of the male characters, his lines are dubbed over by The Singing Resident in the Icky Flix re-edit; most of Clem's original line-readings are restored in the remastered version released on the 2023 Blu-ray and DVD editions of Triple Trouble.
