"Lord It's Lonely" is a song performed by Peggy Honeydew with The Residents, first released on the 1984 video and album Whatever Happened To Vileness Fats?.
It is derived from the Randy Newman song "Lonely At The Top", which Peggy performed in the original version of Vileness Fats.
History[]
Originally a straight cover of Randy Newman's "Lonely At The Top" recorded for the Vileness Fats film project, the original version of this song has never been released (except for a snippet direct from the Vileness Fats video master, in outtakes released by Don Hardy as part of the promotion for Theory of Obscurity: A Film About The Residents).
In 1984, a new recording of the song was featured in Whatever Happened To Vileness Fats?, retitled "Lord, I'm Lonely" and bearing little resemblance to the original recording, with heavily pitch-shifted and near-incomprehensible vocals and newly-recorded backing track. This version was released on the corresponding soundtrack album, and to date, remains the only officially released studio version of this song.
