Loss of the Lizard Lady (subtitled A Collection of Songs Featuring Molly Harvey 1994-2005 or The Molly Harvey Collection) is a double LP compilation album by The Residents, released August 3rd 2018 on Secret Records.

The compilation focuses entirely on songs featuring vocalist Molly Harvey recorded between 1994 and 2005, with the first disc featuring tracks recorded in the studio and the second featuring tracks recorded live.

History

Loss of the Lizard Lady features twelve studio tracks and ten live tracks recorded by The Residents with their long-time collaborator Molly Harvey between 1994 and 2005. It features artwork from the group's regular associate Steven Cerio.

The double album was originally intended to have no set side order; there was to be a live LP and a studio LP (like the final release) but no "Side A", "Side B" etc.. Each side was to be its own collection of songs, each with a unique title, and Loss of the Lizard Lady was originally the title for what is Side D on the released version of the album. The titles of the other sides may have included Eva's Unclean Jelly and Old Monkey Moisture. The four titles would likely have been etched into the dead wax on each side.

This concept was abandoned due to the fact that as the track titles would have had to have been printed in some order on the album art in any way, making the idea redundant. Molly Harvey and Vincent Presley of Secret Records also considered creating "different custom etchings" for the release, but abandoned the idea at the last minute before release.

Release

In the years following its release, Loss of the Lizard Lady became the out of print Secret Records release most regularly requested by customers to be reissued.

The album was reissued by Secret Records on February 25th 2022 in a limited edition of 200 hand-numbered copies on canary yellow and red swirled vinyl, as Secret Records' contribution to The Residents' 50th Anniversary celebrations.
