Lot was a figure depicted in the biblical Book of Genesis, chapters 11–14 and 19. Notable events in his life include his journey with his uncle Abram (later known as Abraham), his family's flight from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (during which Lot's wife became a pillar of salt), and his daughters' conspiracy to have sexual intercourse with him to ensure their family would have descendants.

The story of Lot has occasionally been referenced in the work of The Residents, most notably in the song "Fire Fall" from the 1998 album Wormwood: Curious Stories From The Bible, which interprets the events of Genesis 19 from the perspective of an older, regretful Lot. He is again referenced in the liner notes of the 2018 album Intruders, where it is mentioned that Lot could never forget the two angels who rescued him from the destruction of Sodom.
