Loveland is a screenplay written by The Residents in 2004,[1] described as "a mystery about romance, treasure hunting, and a dead body found at the bottom of a 200-foot hole in Loveland, Mississippi".[2] Despite remaining unproduced to date, The Residents are still said to be fond of the screenplay and hope to "do something with it one of these days".[1]

In April 2023, it was announced that The Residents are again trying to produce the film, and are currently seeking financial backing for the project. A full-page treatment is said to be available to potential backers; interested parties should contact Cryptic for further information.[2]

Plot description[]

Loveland was described by Homer Flynn of The Cryptic Corporation as "a classic tale of Southern Gothic dysfunctionality, revolving around three generations of the Dupree family, anonymous nobodies in nowhere, Mississippi".[2]

Set in 1982 in the fictional town of Loveland in the Delta region of Mississippi,[1][2] it opens with a researcher from the Smithsonian Institution who falls into a 200-foot hole and becomes trapped while investigating a mysterious structure.[1]

The story then focuses on the riddles and grim family secrets connected to the "kudzu-covered" structure. A "shadowy albino character" who appears throughout the screenplay seems to "foretell" The Residents' later discovery of the obscure albino blues singer Alvin "Dyin' Dog" Snow.[1]
