"March de la Winni" (originally titled "March of the Winnebagos", or alternately "March de la Winebago") is a short instrumental piece composed by Hardy Fox, originally featured on The Residents' unreleased 1974 demo reel "X Is For Xtra".

One of a number of pieces of music which were originally considered for use in the group's abandoned feature film Vileness Fats, it was instead released on the 1977 album Fingerprince. The released version is a shortened edit; the full version was issued as a free download in 2019 on The Residents' official website.

History[]

Originally titled "March of the Winnebagos", the instrumental piece originates from "X Is For Xtra", a reel of pieces recorded by Hardy Fox and The Residents around 1974. "X Is For Xtra" comprised elements of what would become the group's then-incomplete Not Available operetta, and pieces of music considered for the proposed score for their abandoned film project Vileness Fats.

The unedited "X Is For Xtra" version, released as a free download on The Residents' official website in 2019 under the title "March De La Winebago", is two minutes longer than the final edit heard later on Fingerprince, and includes a number of additional instrumental themes.

The shortened Fingerprince edit, titled "March de la Winni", is also heard at the beginning of most versions of the group's short film The Third Reich 'n Roll, over stop motion footage of the Atomic Shopping Carts from Vileness Fats.

"March de la Winni" was re-recorded by The Residents in 2001 for their Icky Flix project, this version was included as the introduction to their updated version of the video for The Third Reich 'n Roll. It was performed live for the first time in as the opening to the Icky Flix tour in 2001. It would be 14 years before being performed again, for the group's Shadowland tour, acting as the introduction to "Constantinople".
