This page details the user rules for Meet The Residents Wiki.
Though The Mysterious Spanish Ladies appreciate and value the contributions of all who join our community, all registered users of Meet The Residents Wiki are expected to follow the listed rules on this page whenever editing the wiki, or otherwise publicly associating themselves with the wiki or its administration.
It is important to note that violations of these rules, or more broadly of the Fandom Terms of Use, may result in a user being blocked from editing, or otherwise limited in their use of the wiki and/or the Mysterious Spanish, Uninc. Discord server.
Any punitive measures taken against users who breach these rules will be applied at the discretion of The Ladies.
List of rules
- Please do not "reveal" identities of current or former members of The Residents where irrelevant to the subject or unconfirmed by official parties. To date, the only people who have publicly revealed their involvement as members of The Residents are Hardy Fox and Phillip Perkins. Members of The Cryptic Corporation who have stated that they are not members of The Residents, such as Homer Flynn, should be referred to by their proper job titles.
- You must sign up for a Fandom account to be able to make edits to the wiki. Access to editing privileges on Meet The Residents Wiki is not, and will not be, available to anonymous users; a registered Fandom user account is required to become a contributor. This rule exists to minimize bad faith edits or vandalism that The Mysterious Spanish Ladies frankly do not have the patience, time or energy to spend cleaning. People who do not wish to sign up for a Fandom account but who still have a suggestion or contribution they wish to make to the wiki are encouraged to contact The Ladies via email (the (dot) mysterious (dot) spanish (dot) ladies (at) gmail (dot) com) or in our Discord server, Mysterious Spanish, Uninc..
- Membership of Meet The Residents Wiki, The Mysterious Spanish Ladies, and the Discord server Mysterious Spanish, Uninc. is limited to users aged 16 years and over. While we cannot reasonably be expected to know the ages of all users who join the wiki or server, if The Mysterious Spanish Ladies discover a user is aged under 16, we will be forced to ban that user from editing the wiki or posting in the server, until such time as they reach the age of 16.
- Please do not make unconstructive/bad faith edits or insert vandalism on articles. It doesn't impress anyone, least of all The Mysterious Spanish Ladies, and it's probably not as funny as you think it is anyway. Repeated instances will result in a permanent block.
- Please ensure you use an unbiased and encyclopedic tone wherever possible, and avoid personal opinion or conjecture when editing wiki articles. This will result in the wiki becoming a more reliable and accurate source for all of us; although given the nature of the subject this will be cloudy even at best, citable facts are still preferable in every instance to second, third or fourth-hand rumors and conjecture or presumption.
- Please supply well-cited and substantiated references wherever possible. This validates the wiki's statements and contents, and also provides many reference points to relevant, interesting or pertinent material for readers and for other wiki contributors. Where possible, please ensure that online contents are accurately linked for ease of use.
- Please do not upload digital files of commercially available material to Meet The Residents Wiki. There are many functional means of referring to particular media by The Residents or other artists, usually by hyper=linking to official Spotify, Bandcamp or YouTube material under a "Buy Or Die!" heading at the bottom of a page, so there is no acceptable reason to post commercially available, copyright-infringing music or video material here when we can contribute to The Residents' streaming statistics and increase their support through whatever amount of money they can get from these channels, or through the purchase of the vast amount of physical media being released. For reference and posterity purposes, we do encourage the submission of material such as interviews (unless commercially unavailable), and PDF documents of promotional material, magazine appearances, etc. are also very welcome. If we are hosting material which has been made commercially available we are more than happy to remove it (and if we remember it's on the wiki, we possibly already have).
- Please do not upload or directly link to bootleg/unofficially uploaded streaming material by The Residents. This includes any links to streaming material by The Residents (such as YouTube videos) which were not officially uploaded by The Residents or their associates. Links to official YouTube videos, material posted by organizations directly associated with The Residents/The Cryptic Corporation (such as record labels and museums), and external music streaming services (ie. Spotify and Apple Music) are allowed and encouraged. (We'd like to make the group a lot of money, if we can, even indirectly.) Links to other pseudo-official material (such as fan-made submissions for I Am A Resident! campaigns) will also be allowed for purposes of historical context.
- Please do not upload or link to any otherwise publicly uncirculated material to the wiki. Our sources are derived from material which has been made publicly available by others. The Mysterious Spanish Ladies generally will not circulate private, rare or uncirculated material without prior permission from The Cryptic Corporation or their spokespeople. As Cherry Red Records are currently in the process of arranging their physical and digital archives as part of the pREServed series, The Ladies instead encourage users to instead submit any such material directly to Cryptic via their official email - info (at) crypticorp (dot) com, or if you prefer, you can contact a Mysterious Spanish Lady, and we can submit the material to Cryptic on your behalf.
- Please avoid directly linking to the personal social media pages of figures mentioned on the wiki without their express permission. While referring to posts on social media (such as those in public Facebook groups such as "The Residents") is acceptable as these can occasionally be tantamount to public statements from notable figures, please be mindful of the personal privacy of the figures involved, and do not link directly to personal social media accounts in references or elsewhere on the wiki unless you have express permission to do so.
- If you are the subject of an article on the wiki and are also a registered contributor, please be aware that this will be noted both on your article and user page. In the interest of transparency, this policy is mandatory. Articles where the subject is also a contributing wiki user may be locked for editing at the discretion of The Mysterious Spanish Ladies, to ensure that only relevant information is included in the wiki. Your user page will also be included in the "external links and references" section of your article, so that readers can view contributions you have made to the wiki. We also have a selection of "tophat" box templates for both articles and user pages designed for this purpose - you could consider these badges of honor!
- If you are the subject of a locked article on the wiki and are not happy with what has been written, please reach out to The Mysterious Spanish Ladies and we can work something out. It is very likely we will be happy to take steps to accommodate you while also maintaining our editorial standards - we're not here to step on anybody's toes. Just get in touch with the wiki's administrators, either via our individual user pages (ImaginaryJacques and Cosmichobo1), or email to: the (dot) mysterious (dot) spanish (dot) ladies (at) gmail (dot) com, or by joining our dedicated Discord server, Mysterious Spanish, Uninc..
- Wiki contributors must maintain a civil demeanor at all times in disagreements related to the content and style of the wiki's pages. All contributions to Meet The Residents Wiki, no matter how small, grammatically/factually inaccurate, or stylistically incorrect, are appreciated as useful by The Mysterious Spanish Ladies. With this in mind, disagreements on matters of style or content should be resolved through civil discussion on the talk pages of the relevant articles, or in The Mysterious Spanish Ladies' Discord server, Mysterious Spanish, Uninc.. Excessive edit warring over stylistic choices may result in a page being locked for editing by a Mysterious Spanish Lady. Repeat offenders may be blocked from editing the wiki.
- Any form of harassment of other wiki users, or of figures related to The Residents, Ralph Records or related entities, will result in a permanent block. This especially includes the use of abusive and/or hateful language directed at any individual or group. Any sockpuppet accounts you create in order to evade a block will also be blocked upon detection by The Mysterious Spanish Ladies.
