Meet The Residents Wiki

The Residents' Official News Blog and Website Wrapper was a news blog maintained by Big Brother of The Cryptic Corporation beginning August 15th 2003, following the company's purchase of the residents.com domain name from fan site RZWeb (now defunct).

The blog later developed into the BOG, a dedicated news blog which was The Cryptics' (and thus, The Residents') main outlet for communication with their fans until the website's redesign in 2008.

This page collects posts made to this news blog in November 2003, as archived on archive.org, transcribed to this wiki by a Mysterious Spanish Lady.

The Residents' agent in Europe, Berthold Seliger, has curated a CD of acts that he books to celebrate the 15th anniversary of his business. Most of the CD's have been given away to promoters and others he has worked with over the years.
There is a lone Residents track, "Wolverines" recorded and mixed in Brooklyn by Julian Lauzanna on the 13th of November, 2002.
CD number: AR 008 - no record company

FAQ - - Touring questions[]

1. Are The Residents touring soon in (name of country)?
2. Why aren't the Residents playing (name of county or city)?
3. Can I hire The Residents?
1. -- The Residents just completed five years of touring with three completely different shows: Wormwood, Icky Flix, Demons Dance Alone. While it is difficult to predict what they will do next, they say it feels good to put time into other projects now. They aren't getting any younger, you know. Currently there are no tour plans. If that should change it will be wildly announced here on the blog.
2. -- The Residents do not select places to play. They work with agents in the different territories (you can get their names from the contact list in "PRESS KIT" in the column on the left) and the agents work with promoters to arrange shows. So the selection comes from the local promoter in your town who hires The Residents through their agent. However, if the group is not touring it is unlikely they will be available for hire.
3. -- Yes. It is entirely possible to hire The Residents. Consult the agent as instructed above. However, if they are not touring, be prepared to pay as much for one show as an entire tour might cost, or close to it. Many costs are fixed and will be the same whether they play one show or a dozen shows. Additionally The Residents don't play the same show once it has been retired, so it may involve development costs and take many months of preparation... so plan ahead.

Another year older[]

[broken image: 12-days-SDwebjpg.jpg]
2002 had been a big year for The Residents. They were celebrating their 30th Anniversary so a big project was in order. Instead of one, we got two. First was the album and show of Demons Dance Alone, and second was the large box set of CD’s and a DVD named Kettles of Fish on the Outskirts of Town.
These projects overlapped into 2003, with the Demons Dance Alone show completing two more tours in Europe. Highlights of the tours included first time visits to St. Petersburg, Russia and Belgrade, Serbia. The most curious show was, undoubtedly, the BAM Festival in Barcelona, Spain. The festival took up half of an operating train station, one of those big European style ones. The Residents were asked to reduce the show to one hour, and they did, almost to the minute. Added to that was the problem of equipment failure and finally, throw in a member of the audience joining The Residents on stage for the final Demon dance, and you have yourself one surreal event. Another show of note was the pleasant return to the stage at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
There was a sense of sadness as the group completed the final performance of Demons Dance Alone in Thessoloniki, Greece. There was an awareness that Demons was the last of three touring shows that had kept the group busy for over five years. The Residents could not enter their fourth decade without reinventing themselves once again. Everything that begins, has an ending... sorry... I had to throw that in.
Kettles of Fish and the enigmatic Eskimo DVD picked up momentum in 2003 even though they were released in 2002. A big splash was made with the release of the Demons Dance Alone DVD in September. Finally those who had missed the live show could get a sense of what everyone was raving about. As a spin off, a DVD single was also released: The Golden Goat. Missing from 2003 was any substantial audio projects, though The Residents are known to be working on something unique. Some say the audio problem involves changes in the record industry, including the popularity of P2P, made the Residents devote more time to DVD development and touring. Also, The Residents had a friendly split with their long time record label in the USA, ESD, and this had an impact on their audio output plans. They have not signed with any replacement label. Likewise, The Residents went with a new touring agent in the USA, KORK. As of the moment, the group is not working on any plans to tour so we have yet to see where this will take them.
My favorite event of 2003 would have to have been the arrival of the news blog, Residents.com. Okay, I am biased. I believe we will really see the blog starting to blossom in 2004.
But what else is set for 2004, you are wondering. I expect to hear that the Disfigured Night DVD is set for release any day now and a Freak Show DVD is in the works. I’m certain that there is going to be a lot of audio in 2004, old and new, perhaps making up for the shortage in 2003. Probably... more than one album will be released, and that doesn’t even count the Paralyzer project.
My crystal ball says that you will be hearing about more business deals, distribution plans and maybe even label signings. While there is currently no talk of live shows, I wouldn’t be surprised if some odd performance popped up of the non-touring variety. Though this is definitely speculation.
Whatever does actually happen, you know I will be there to report on it.
Hang on for the fourth decade,
Big Bro, your dot com guy
