Meet The Residents Wiki

"Overday" is a two minute suite of previously unreleased outtakes by The Residents, recorded during sessions for their debut album Meet The Residents between February and October 1973. It was released on the compilation album The Delta Nudes' Greatest Hiss in 2013.

The suite contains excerpts from the outtakes "Tuesday #1", "Inka Don't Dry", "George's Horn" and "Sokurha", closing with a piece played back at a high tape speed, known as "Overlay at High Speed" (from which the suite's title is derived).

Almost all parts of the suite were released separately in newly remastered mixes on the CD and vinyl pREServed editions of Meet The Residents in 2018 and 2023 respectively, including a further variation of the closing "Overlay" section, titled "Overlay at Regular Speed".

History[]

The Delta Nudes' Greatest Hiss version[]

The 2013 compilation album The Delta Nudes' Greatest Hiss features a two minute suite titled "Overday", consisting of a series of excerpts of (then) unreleased outtakes from the recording sessions for The Residents' debut album Meet The Residents, recorded between February and October 1973.

The suite opens with an excerpt of "Tuesday #1" (0:00-0:17), followed by an excerpt from "Inka Don't Dry" (0:17-0:35), then the complete "George's Horn" (0:35-0:58), a short excerpt from "Sokurha" (0:58-1:05), and an otherwise unreleased saxophone piece (1:05-1:28), which then crossfades into the complete "Overlay at High Speed" (1:28-2:15). This version of the track (like most tracks on the Greatest Hiss compilation) also features digital reverb added by The Cryptic Corporation at the time of release.

Meet The Residents pREServed[]

Almost all parts of the "Overday" suite were issued separately in newly remastered mixes on the pREServed expanded CD and vinyl editions of Meet The Residents in 2018 and 2023 respectively.

The two CD pREServed edition of the album contains extended takes of "Tuesday #1", "Inka Don't Dry" and "Sokurha", as well as the complete "Overlay at High Speed". The three LP edition contains "George's Horn", and a further variant of "Overlay at High Speed", a longer version with added percussion and horns titled "Overlay at Regular Speed".
