Picnic In The Jungle is a song by The Residents and Snakefinger, included on Snakefinger's debut album, 'Chewing Hides The Sound.'

Background[]

The song was written by Snakefinger and The Residents for inclusion on Snakefinger's 1979 debut album, Chewing Hides The Sound. When Snakefinger began performing live concerts as a solo artist, A Resident would appear on stage and perform vocals on the song.

When The Residents and Snakefinger embarked on the Ralph Records' the 13th Anniversary Show from 1985-1987, an extended version of Picnic In The Jungle was performed, this time with lead vocals from Mr. Brown, the Singing Resident.

Five years after Snakefinger's death, The Residents wrote and recorded two new mash-ups of the song, "Kick A Picnic" & "Jungle Bunny" for their Our Finest Flowers album. Kick A Picnic would then go on to be performed live at the Icky Flix and The Way We Were tours, and Jungle Bunny would be remixed for the RMX album.

In 2013, A mash-up of the song with Loser ≅ Weed was performedas the opening to the Wonder Of Weird 40th Anniversary show, followed by a remixed version of the 13th Anniversary recording being released as a digital single in 2014.

In 2018, the track appeared on I Am A Resident, as Kick A Picnic, performed by The Meet Cafe, and most recently a live recording of the song from The Residents' 2017 tour of Japan has been released as a limited edition single.

Lyrics[]

Afterwards, it’s like a dream
You can’t remember, but it seems
To stay alive inside your mind
And pray upon your leisure time
It happens in an open spot
The air is sticky and it’s hot
First they take away our clothes
Then they lay us down in rows
A cloud appears and melts away
The flesh of some while others stay
Machines that look like little cars
Consume the bones and count the scars
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
In a place that no one knows
We are prisoners of those
That no one sees, and no one hears
But everybody hates and fears!
Now everyday, they leave a tray
And take an empty one away
On the tray are chicken legs
Potato salad, and some eggs
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?

Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
Is everybody ready for the picnic in the jungle?
