RMX ("Residents Music Xpanded" or "remix")[1] is an abbreviation used by The Cryptic Corporation for officially released digital remixes created or commissioned by The Residents.[1] The term was first used for the twin releases of WB:RMX and The King & Eye RMX in 2004.
The Residents later used the term for a series of digital singles released through MySpace in 2006; comprising 13 tracks created as learning exercises by Hardy Fox. Neither Fox nor The Residents intended this material to be released, but did so out of contractual obligation.[1]
In 2009, these singles were collected for the compilation album RMX, which was later reissued in 2018 by Klanggalerie.
Another remix project, "Radio Thoreau," was maintained by a Resident between 2013 and 2014. A similar concept, "RDX," first appeared on the the compilation album Leftovers Again?! to denote alternative mixes of songs containing outtakes found on the original master tapes.
