RZWeb (alternatively RzWeb) was an unofficial (and later semi-official)[1][2] website dedicated to The Residents, created by fan James H.G. Redekop (aka tzoq) in association with members of the unofficial fan club Smelly Tongues between October 1994 and 1997.[3][2]
The site began life as a LaTeX book titled The Residents: The Mostly Complete Works, detailing Redekop's personal Residents collection; this evolved into a second, web-based edition, which launched in October 1994.[2] Upon discovering the page, The Cryptic Corporation considered it to be so exhaustive that they considered it to be effectively The Residents' official website,[1] and provided images, information and press releases directly to Redekop to help keep the website up to date.[2]
RZWeb was active at the domain name residents.com until August 2003, when The Cryptic Corporation took control of the domain to introduce The Residents' official news blog; after this point, RZWeb remained active at rzweb.net and rzweb.org until permanently closing in October 2005.
Much of RZWeb's contents were integrated into the Historical section on the new Residents website, which was introduced in November 2005 and remains updated to this day.[1] RZWeb remains accessible in its original format through the Internet Archive.
The archived version of the site was used by The Mysterious Spanish Ladies as a primary resource and inspiration when first creating this wiki in early 2017; its influence on the wiki remains evident in its structure and in many of its articles.
