Meet The Residents Wiki

Record Store Day (commonly abbreviated to RSD, not to be confused with Robot Selling Device) is an annual event inaugurated in 2008 and held on one Saturday every April and every "Black Friday" in November, intended to "celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store".

In recent years, special releases (including a growing number of reissues and archival releases by The Residents) are pressed in limited editions on vinyl specifically for Record Store Day, with a list of special releases for each country, which are only distributed to shops participating in the event.

The event began in the United States and remains headquartered there.

Leftovers Again?!, released Record Store Day 2021

According to the liner notes accompanying the 2021 Record Store Day release Leftovers Again?!, The Residents have no idea what Record Store Day is. Despite this, The Cryptic Corporation have been issuing Residents material on vinyl for Record Store Day since 2015.

From 2015 to 2017, The Residents' Record Store Day vinyl releases - then limited to reissues of previously released material - were handled by Music On Vinyl. Since late 2017, when a retiring Hardy Fox sold his stake in Cryptic to Cherry Red Records, MVD Audio and New Ralph Too, The Residents' Record Store Day vinyl releases were handled by those three labels.

From the inauguration of The Residents' pREServed reissue campaign in 2018, Record Store Day was often used as a means of issuing previously unreleased material on vinyl, beginning with their 1971 demo recordings The W***** B*** Album and B.S., in 2018 and 2019 respectively. In 2021, they released Leftovers Again?!, a collection of 1970s outtakes and demos.

In 2022, The Residents concluded the "Residents, Uninc." trilogy with Warning Uninc., a collection of (mostly previously released) experimental live and studio material from 1971 and 1972. In 2023, The Residents released their 1992 album Our Finest Flowers as a limited edition double LP. In 2024, they released Leftovers Again?! AGAIN?!, a sequel to their 2021 Record Store Day release.
