Ritual: Magnetic North is a compilation album released by Touch in 1985. The Residents contributed one track for it.
Background[]
In 1985 The Residents were asked to contribute to Touch's newest compilation album. The theme of the album is Rituals, and so the group contributed Theme For An American TV Show, which had been recorded as a commission by a TV producer, who ultimately rejected it earlier in the year. Also contributing to the album are Residents collaborators Renaldo And The Loaf.
The song would be performed by the group throughout their 13th Anniversary Tour, and would eventually be re-recorded for their I Am A Resident project in 2018.
The album collects musical inspired by rituals, mostly recorded between October 1982 and August 1985, although, it does feature two songs recorded in 1928 and 1942, Closing Prices Paper Late & Urban Psychology, respectively.
