Semolina is a track from The Residents' Buster & Glen EP, first released on the Duck Stab!/Buster & Glen LP.

History

The track was recorded in 1978 by The Residents with Snakefinger for inclusion on the Buster & Glen EP. Due to complications and meddling from The Cryptic Corporation, it was released on the Duck Stab / Buster & Glenn LP instead. From 1985 to 1987, Semolina was performed during the opening medley to the 13th Anniversary Show, once again with Snakefinger on guitar. In 2009 it was re-recorded for the album Ten Little Piggies, and was performed during the Talking Light tour from 2010 to 2011. In 2012, the song was re-recorded again for the D*ck S*ab album.

Recently it was included in the 2021 Duck Stab Alive TV special, and was performed in the September Dog Stab performances.

Lyrics

She can see the silver sometimes
Shining on the sea;
Reflecting from the flying fishes
Wishing she could be
A little piece of sand that's blown
Above the ocean's breeze,
But all she has is thoughts of all
those fingers peeling seeds,
And leaving them to mold among
The women watching weeds.
Sem-o-lina
Loves the seashells.
At the shore she
Loves the seashells.
