Meet The Residents Wiki

"Sokurha" (also known as "Tuesday #5") is a song by The Residents, recorded during their Tuesday sessions preceding their debut album Meet The Residents. It is an adaptation of a traditional Japanese folk song, "Sakura Sakura".

The track was recorded in 1973, and was first released in 2013 on the compilation The Delta Nudes' Greatest Hiss. This edit also includes the (uncredited) outtake "Quick Brain Tuesday" - both "Sokurha" (as "Tuesday #5") and "Quick Brain Tuesday" were later released on the 2018 pREServed edition of Meet The Residents.

History[]

"Sokurha" is an adaptation of "Sakura Sakura" (or "Cherry Blossoms, Cherry Blossoms", also known simply as "Sakura"), a traditional Japanese folk song depicting spring, the season of cherry blossoms, which is often sung in international settings as a song representative of Japan.

The edit of the track featured on the 2013 compilation The Delta Nudes' Greatest Hiss (and also the 2016 reissue The Residents Present The Delta Nudes) also includes the (uncredited) outtake "Quick Brain Tuesday". Parts of the track are also heard in the outtake "Overday".

"Quick Brain Tuesday" and "Sokurha" (instead titled "Tuesday #5") were later included on the pREServed CD reissue of Meet The Residents in 2018.

English translation[]

Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms,
In fields, mountains and villages
As far as the eye can see.
Is it mist, or clouds?
Fragrant in the rising sun.
Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms,
Flowers in full bloom.
Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms,
Across the spring sky,
As far as the eye can see.
Is it mist, or clouds?
Fragrant in the air.
Come now, come now,
Let's go and see them!
