Stalking Ralph is a graphic novel by artist Matt Howarth and writer Lou Stathis (columnist for Heavy Metal magazine), developed throughout the 1980s and published in October 1995 by ÆON.

The comic features the interdimensional assassins Ron and Russ Post (the main characters of Howarth and Stathis' best known comic Those Annoying Post Bros.), who are hired to unmask and kill The Residents.

History[]

Comic artist Matt Howarth and writer Lou Stathis began developing Stalking Ralph shortly after Howarth illustrated Stathis' review of The Residents for Heavy Metal magazine in April 1980. Four years after beginning work on the project, the duo developed the comic series Those Annoying Post Bros., featuring the lead characters from Stalking Ralph.

In 1982, Howarth published a series of comics based on The Residents' Mole Trilogy, The Comix of Two Cities; Stalking Ralph was publicized in one of the issues of this comic, many years prior to its release. The comic was apparently completed in the late 1980s; in 1994, Howarth added an epilogue, and it was published by ÆON (a wing of MU Press) the following year.

In the comic, The Residents most commonly appear in their "box-head" costumes, as seen in the "Residents at Mount Rushmore" image; Howarth and Stathis apparently believed these costumes would become permanent or semi-permanent replacements for the iconic eyeball masks, after one of the masks was stolen at a show on their 13th Anniversary tour in 1986.
