Tabasco is an instrumental demo album by The Residents recorded between 2005 and 2006, containing early material intended for their 29th studio album, Tweedles. The album was released digitally on January 1st, 2010.[1]

Recording[]

After returning from their 2005 tour of Australia, The Residents were shocked to find that their studios needed an urgent seismic upgrade to prevent damage through earthquakes. At the same time, and perhaps knowing of the incident, a wealthy Romanian fan of The Residents offered to let the group use his studio.

So in January of 2006, The Residents flew to Romania to use the studio to write and record material for their upcoming 29th studio album there. Once on the plane, ideas began to form in their mind, and The Residents quickly recorded this album. Some selections are vastly different from the finished versions, with entirely cut segments. Others excerpts are largely identical, like Isolation, or Almost Perfect.

The demo features the theme of the three elements, Air, Earth & Water, and is entirely instrumental. It is similar in concept to Hades, with each track featured being about one of the rivers of Hades.

Around this same time, the group had also recorded a noir instrumental demo album titled Music To Eat Bricks By.

Release[]

Tweedles was eventually released on October 31st, 2006, with the initial demo, Tabasco, being released through The Residents' webstore, RSD, on January 1st, 2010. Tabasco featured three lengthy unindexed suites, unlike the Animal Lover Instrumental or The River of Crime Instrumental albums before them, which included instrumental versions of individual tracks from the projects.

The album was later re-released with new artwork on The Resident's Bandcamp in March of 2015. It was only available for a short time though, as it, along with a majority of The Residents' Bandcamp releases, were removed from the website in June of 2016.

Liner Notes[]

Tweedles: Instrumental Following in the footsteps of the successful release of River of Crime: Instrumental and Animal Lover:Instrumental, Tweedles: Instrumental is more than just non-vocal versions of the songs.  Instead, the album is a three piece suite that was originally written to represent air, earth, and water.  Originally, the project's working title was "Tabasco" and over time, it evolved into "Casanova's Clown" until finally becoming Tweedles. 2006

The Residents' Tweedles (2006) is an album that follows the exploits of a sexually compulsive young man. A year before it appeared in record stores, it was in the form of a bunch of fragmented recordings. To make listening to the fragments easier, they were molded into three larger chunks: Air, Earth, Water. The collection was called Tabasco as a working name. And this is that
