Notes From Ralph[]
"The Elvis album, The King & I, was recorded at a local studio here, Different Fur, because it came out on Enigma and they had a little extra money to spend."

"The Residents love symbols, and I don't think that they were especially Elvis fans, but they were kind of fascinated by the Elvis phenomenon. And they were particularly interested in Elvis imitators. Just the fact that someone would want to spend their life imitating a rock star, that was fascinating to The Residents... it really wasn't about Elvis, it was about an Elvis imitator. So there's a lot of narration in it, and the narration is an aging Elvis imitator who's telling the story of the Baby King to his grandchildren. So once again, it's not so much about Elvis as it is about Elvis imitators and the Elvis phenomenon."
"The Residents felt like Elvis was incredibly overrated."
"The Residents did a lot of research... and there are two things that are really worth checking out. One is a documentary called Elvis '56. 1956 was Elvis' year. That was the year he kind of came up. There are several appearances that he made on national TV shows in America, you know, and he's incredible. You know, he's just so in the moment and so alive. But then, you know, it's kind of like... he got all the attention that he wanted, and could get all the attention that he wanted, and then he quit working at it. If you've ever seen one Elvis movie, you know, uh, it's an experience you'll never want to repeat... they're horrible. And all Elvis wanted to do was be a star... he didn't really have to keep working at it. The other thing that's worth checking out, there is another TV program called... the 1969 Comeback Special. By 1969, The Beatles had really displaced Elvis as world famous pop stars, or whatever. So Elvis felt pressured to prove that he still had it. So there are two segments of this show, and one of these segments is Elvis with his original band in a TV studio, with a small audience. And he wanted to prove that he still had it, and he did. And he's very loose, he's very charismatic, you know... he isn't fat yet..."
"For the most part, like I say, for me, I find Elvis overrated."
