Talking Light Oslo Norway is a digital live album by The Residents. It is the sixth release in The Residents' second series of Talking Light downloads. It's also the Twenty-Second of sixty-seven digital live albums released of The Residents' Talking Light world tour. The show was recorded at The Sentrum Scene, where The Residents' had visited on their last tour, The Bunny Boy. The Residents plan to revisit the venue on their Dog Stab tour in 2023.
The show notably features the premiere of the track 'The Phantom Fingers,' which would eventually be recorded for Night Train To Nowhere in 2012. The version featured here has pre-recorded vocals by an uncredited female vocalist, who sounds similar to Gerri Lawlor, The Residents' then-current female vocalist who also has lead vocals on all versions of 'The Unseen Sister.' The singing Resident performs on the studio version of The Phantom Fingers. That version is also 4 minutes shorter than the version performed at this show.
For unknown reasons, this show only features 4 of the show's typical monologues, with the monologue typically following The Service removed entirely.
Synopsis[]
Well inspired by Captain Beefheart and Sun Ra, the eccentric (to put it mildly) cult band from Los Angeles has enriched the alternative music scene with their experimental rock since the early seventies. Still, no one knows who they are as they always play with masks; one skull and three eyeballs. They last played for a sold-out Sentrum Scene in 2008 and are currently touring "The Talking Light." Madness has never sounded better. This evening there will be a lot of old material, the band themselves say: Talking Light has about an hour of older tunes, but they are new arrangements - often radical. The show opens with a song from 1974, and focuses on aging and dying (write what you know about). It only makes sense to play songs from their long career - especially the ones about creepy old or dead people.
