Meet The Residents Wiki

"Teddy Bear" is a popular song first recorded by Elvis Presley in 1957 for the soundtrack of his second motion picture, Loving You, during which Presley performs the song on screen. It was written by Kal Mann and Bernie Lowe and published in 1957 by Gladys Music. The Residents have covered it several times.

Background[]

Teddy Bear was released as the lead single to Elvis Presley's 1957 mini-album Loving You. The song reached number 1 in the US billboard charts, and remained there for 7 weeks.

The Residents decided to cover the song for their 1989 Cube-E tour, noticing the blatant sexual themes within. They later recorded a studio version of the track at Different Fur Studios, and released it on their Elvis cover album 'The King & Eye'

In 2002 The Residents commissioned German producer Paralyzer to create a club remix of their King & Eye album. In 2004, the remixed version was released, with Teddy Bear appearing on a bonus EP sent with vinyl copies of the album.

The song was next performed as part of the 2005 'Way We Were' tour as the first encore, this time featuring lead vocals by Molly Harvey. It was later revived for their 2017 - 2019 In Between Dreams live show.
