"The Booker Tease" is an instrumental by The Residents, inspired by American R&B artist Booker T. Jones. It was first released on the EP Duck Stab! on February 1st 1978 by Ralph Records; later that year it was featured on the A-side of the album Duck Stab!/Buster & Glen.

In 2012, the song was re-recorded by The Residents; this version was released on the digital album D*ck S*ab - 35th Anniversary. In September 2021, the song was performed on the Dog Stab! mini-tour of California, its only appearance in the group's live shows to date.

History[]

The song was recorded in late 1977 as a one-minute instrumental inspired by American R&B/soul musician Booker T. Jones. It was first released in February 1978 on the Duck Stab! EP. In November 1978, it was featured on the Duck Stab!/Buster & Glen LP.

In 1983 the song was featured on the cassette compilation Trouser Press Presents The Best of America Underground. In 2000, it was featured in the soundtrack of the film Condo Painting.

Later versions[]

The Residents re-recorded "The Booker Tease" in 2012 for the 35th Anniversary of Duck Stab!/Buster & Glen; this version was released on the resulting digital release D*ck S*ab.

It was the only song from the album which was not performed for the 2021 live-in-the-studio streaming TV special Duck Stab! Alive!. The song was performed live for the first time on the group's Dog Stab! mini-tour of California in September 2021.[1]

Cover versions[]

In 1992, the Argentinian duo Pachuco Cadaver covered the song on their album Life in La Pampa.

In 1995, a cover by The Guilt was featured on the unofficial tribute album The Residents Unmasked!. A version by Stan Ridgway & J.E.D. was featured on the official tribute album Eyesore: A Stab At The Residents the following year.

In 2000, a version by The Mercurymen was featured on the Smelly Tongues fan club's tribute album F.E.S.T.E.R. A Tribute to The Residents.
