The Bridegroom of Blood (subtitled Gamelan Collection) is a compilation album by The Residents, collecting a number of (mostly live) recordings made with the Balinese gamelan ensemble Gamelan Sekar Jaya between 1998 and 2004.It was released September 17th 2009 on The Residents' digital music platform Robot Selling Device.
The cover photo shows The Residents at their Fillmore residency in October 1998. It is titled after the song of the same name from the album Wormwood; two versions of the song feature on the album.
History[]
The Bridegroom of Blood features a collection of collaborations between The Residents and Balinese gamelan ensemble Gamelan Sekar Jaya, recorded (mostly live) between 1998 and 2004.
"Wormwood Gamelan" includes a suite of three tracks from The Residents' concept album Wormwood, recorded at The Residents' October 1998 residency at the Fillmore in San Francisco. The full Fillmore show was released on the pREServed box set Wormwood Box in 2022.
"Ninth Rain" and "Santa Dog" were recorded in 2000 and were previously released on the earlier outtakes compilation dot com.
"Bridegroom of Blood - Brava" was recorded during the final leg of the Icky Flix tour in 2001. This track had been previously released on the live box set Kettles of Fish on the Outskirts of Town.
"Bridegroom of Blood - Cowell" was recorded live in 2004 during a 25th Anniversary concert for Gamelan Sekar Jaya; this is one of two previously unreleased tracks on the album.
The final track, "Burn My Bones", is an instrumental demo for the 2005 concept album Animal Lover; this version had been released on Animal Lover Instrumental in January 2008.
