The Cryptic Guide to The Residents is a book by Dave Warden, published by Bach's Decay in 1986. Notable for being only the second major published text on The Residents, following the 1979 fan club book The Official W.E.I.R.D. Book of The Residents, the book contained a (then) up to date discography, as well as information on the group's tours, videography, and books. It also included a single-sided 7" green vinyl single containing the song "Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers", and cover art by Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO.
Despite its title, the Cryptic Guide was not published by The Cryptic Corporation, though much of the information in the discography was supplied by Ralph Records. The Cryptic Corporation later claimed that a lot of the information published in the Cryptic Guide was incorrect, leading to the compilation of the 1993 book Uncle Willie's Highly Opinionated Guide to The Residents.
