The Elbow Is Taboo is an album by Renaldo & The Loaf, released on Ralph Records.

The album was recorded with a higher budget than their previous albums, the money earned by their collaboration with The Residents, 'Title In Limbo' had given the duo the funds to purchase more advanced recording equipment, such as a mixing desk, permanently located in Brian Poole's home studio, however this advancement brought unease, as Dave Janssen missed having the ease of being able to record whenever he wanted on his 8 track.

For this album the group also first used a sampler, and a drum machine, advancing their sound moreso.

Recording for the album began in 1984, but due to their unfamiliarity with the new equipment, concluded in 1986, however, due to conflicts in mixing and re-shoots for the artwork, the album didn't come out until 1987.

By the time the album was released, the duo were tired, and, after a few more small releases, decided to go on hiatus.
