Invitation to The Residents' Party of '71.

The Residents, with their music being what it is, have occasionally treated their fans to Halloween performances, either as part of an ongoing tour, or a specific show premiered on the holiday, such as "Party of '71," "The Mole Show," "The Eyeball Show," "Disfigured Night," "Wormwood," "The Brick-Eaters performances."

Party of '71, "The Mad House", Arcata, California, 1971[]

In 1971, the newly formed art collective Residents Unincorporated gave their second ever performance at 'The Mad House' in Arcata, California on Halloween night. The show featured guest appearances from N. Senada and Philip Lithman, who would be christened Snakefinger before the end of the night. Audio from this show was released on the CD compilation, Nickle if Your Dick's This Big.

The Mole Show, California, 1982[]

In 1982, The Residents embarked on a series of five live performances throughout California during the week of Halloween. This was their first tour, and was later expanded into the Euro Mole Show in 1983. The group played at Perkins Palace, Pasadena, on Halloween night. Recordings of these shows were released on two separate releases titled 'Mole Show', the first, a live album from 1982,

The Eyeball Show, Japan, 1985[]

For Halloween 1985, Wave Records, a record label who had found success in releasing The Residents' last two albums in Japan, commissioned the Residents to perform four shows in Japan throughout the week of Halloween. This was called 'The Eyeball Show', and was later adapted into The 13th Anniversary Show world tour. Audio from this tour was released as The Eyeball Show live in Japan.

The 13th Anniversary Show, Europe, 1986[]

In 1986 The Residents played their second series of Halloween concerts in a row. This was at the very end of the 13th Anniversary Show. Audio from these performances was released as 13th Anniversary Show - Live In Holland. The Residents did not play on halloween itself.

Cube-E, Europe, 1989[]

Emidst their Cube-E world tour, The Residents played four shows across Europe during Halloween week. It was the first in their Halloween shows which features no official recordings. The Residents did not play on halloween itself.

Disfigured Night, The Fillmore, 1997[]

After seven years of rare live performances and public appearances, The Residents accepted a residency at The Fillmore in San Francisco for Halloween 1997. Audio from the final show was released as Live At The Fillmore.

Wormwood, The Fillmore, 1998[]

After their '97 Halloween shows had proven popular, The Fillmore's managers paid for The Residents to play again the following year. The Residents, having just released their 23rd studio album, Wormwood, decided to make their show a stage adaption of said album. The show was so successful, that The Residents made the show into their first touring performance in nearly a decade. Audio from this show was first released on the Wormwood Box.

Icky Flix, Brava, San Francisco, 2001[]

In 2001 The Residents continued their Halloween tradition and were booked for a residency at the Brava Theatre. Audio from this show was later released as the live album 'Brava.' Despite being a part of the larger Icky Flix tour, the Halloween run was an entirely separate leg of the tour, and featured a slightly altered setlist.

Demons Dance Alone, California, 2002[]

In 2002 The Residents began their Demons Dance Alone tour with a series of five dates across the California area during Halloween week, with the Halloween night show taking place in as had become tradition, San Francisco.

In 2017 The Residents played their first Halloween shows in 15 years, debuting the European leg of In Between Dreams on Halloween week, and performing at Doornroosje, Nijmegen, Netherlands on Halloween night.

The Brick-Eaters performances, City Lights Bookstore, San Francisco, 2018[]

On October 31st, 2018, The Residents provided instrumental backing to a reading of The Brick-Eaters by Homer Flynn.
