The Residents' Blog was a news blog maintained by Big Brother of The Cryptic Corporation beginning in August 2003 (originally titled The Residents' Official News Blog and Website Wrapper, then The Residents' Official News BOG and later Official News Blog).
The BOG became The Cryptics' (and thus, The Residents') main outlet for communication with their fans until the website's redesign early in this month. At this point (at least according to the website's header after the redesign) the blog was simply called The Residents Blog.
This page collects posts made to this news blog in June 2008, as archived on archive.org, transcribed to this wiki by a Mysterious Spanish Lady.

Euro Ralph[]
Jun/03/08 02:24 PM
- I read in the chat that Euro Ralph is closing down. Euro Ralph has not notified me of this, nor have I heard anything directly from Cryptic Corp. However, I was aware that talks were going on for the last year or so moving toward a final closing. I am not surprised that it is finally happening.
- Euro Ralph released many unique products over the years, including the double-mini CD Duck Stab/Buster and Glenn, the double CD of God in 3 Persons, and Kettles of Fish 4-disc set.
- The music business has not been kind over the past few years, especially to people working mainly out of love. “Nothing lasts forever”, the saying goes. Worth remembering as we enjoy the remaining people and companies who keep The Residents world going.
New Residents Album Coming[]
Jun/03/08 03:06 PM
- Yes, that album titled (all together now) THE BUNNY BOY has been officially outed by Cryptic. Not a lot of info as of yet, but I know you cling to each morsel so here is one for you. It will not be in the storytelling era section. It is in fact, 19 individual songs. Yes songs. And yes it is also a full blown show that will tour into 2009.
- I asked if the show inspired the album or if the album inspire the show. The answer I got was that I have not asked the right question and therefore do not deserve an answer.
- You can trust the Cryptics to be cryptic.
Semantics in action[]
Jun/07/08 06:54 AM
- I have noted reference to Smell My Picture as a new Residents album. Actually the new Residents album is The Bunny Boy and it is due out in September. SMP is a collection of Residents music so it is an “album” but The Residents have not even heard the collection yet (though that should change this week.) I know it is only semantics, but The Residents work hard on their albums and would not likely take kindly to the idea that I pick up music from the cutting room floor, release it as SMP, and have people consider it as “The Residents new album.”
- They are so prolific that I doubt they will even recognize most of the music on SMP.
What's in a name?[]
Jun/10/08 07:38 AM
- Again I noted a discussion above that I would like to respond to:
- When you put a CD into your computer and the names are looked up and downloaded, where do the names come from?
- The answer is that they come from Sony owned, Gracenote. Gracenote maintains a huge database of CD track listings. They get the names for song titles from YOU. You rip a CD and type in the song titles and they grab them. You make up your own titles instead of the correct ones and if you are first to do it, then the CD now has the titles you gave it (if you click the button in iTunes that sends them to Gracenote.)
- So that is how Residents CD’s like The 12 Days of Brumalia and the second disc of Animal Lover ended up with wacky names when you load them into your computer.
- I contacted Gracenote to see how to correct the titles. Their position is that the titles are only for convenience. They make no claims that the titles listed are correct. They are not historians. So they don’t change them. How do they know if what I claim to be the titles is any more correct than the list they have in the computer? GRRRR
- Anyway, it is just another fluke of modern day life. The Gracenote titles will not be found here in the Historical or in the BMI database. They will be found 99.9% of everywhere else.
Changing horses[]
Jun/12/08 07:16 AM
- Those of you who do not like to read business news should skip this. The current East Coast tour is being booked by The Kork Agency. However, The Kork Agency just merged with LA’s rather large, The Agency Group (as of July 1). So now I am trying to figure out who I have to fuck to get tour informtion, Oops did I say that?
More curious biz news[]
Jun/12/08 07:31 AM
- Yesterday I was speaking with Homer Flynn from Cryptic and he told me that The Bunny Boy album will be on a new record label, SDR. “SDR” I asked?
- “Yes, Santa Dog Records will be launching in the fall” he said with a mischievous grin. Apparently gears are turning in the music biz world considering the recent MVD announcement and the change in EMI owners. I figure we will continue to hear news as the music biz world continues to bump and grind to the sound of old model collapse.
Residents listen to SMP[]
Jun/13/08 06:39 AM
- Yes it had to happen, they listened to the new release, Smell My Picture. The reaction was that it was “entertaining.” They also mentioned that some of it is older than the projects it is credited to be from.
- Apparently it is common practice to pull older unused pieces forward to consider adapting for newer projects.
- This release cleans up the past even more than I realized. They confirmed that no old pieces advanced to mine for ideas for The Bunny Boy. Apparently TBB is a “new sound” so trying to work with older pieces would not be successful.
It's truly summer folks[]
Jun/13/08 03:16 PM
- Cryptic and The Residents want you to have some groove-like SUMMER tunes for your ipod when you are at the pool or just hanging around the soda shop.
- Ya never know when one will show up.
- Wait, here’s one now.
- bombay
Surf's up[]

Hot summer night[]
Jun/15/08 02:56 PM
- The stars are really crisp, there is not a breeze and the frogs are looking for love. I don’t know what you are having but my Mai Tai is just perfect. I can bearely see the radio by the light of my only candle, but I’m relaxed with the knowledge that it is tuned to WREZ. I hear a comforting riff coming from the plastic box. The frogs pause for a moment and then, good god, they have joined in.
Speaking of MX80[]
Jun/16/08 11:02 AM
- It was one of those hot San Francisco summer nights in 1989. MX80 was on stage at a club on Divisadero Street when one of The RZ accidently broke a tooth while eating the free popcorn.
- This was taken as some symbolic accident and as soon as the set ended MX80 amazing guitarist, Bruce Andersion, was asked if he would play on the new RZ album, The King & Eye. He did.

Wednesdays[]
Jun/18/08 09:36 AM
- In the summer, most of the kids go clubbing on weekends, but not me. I’m a Wednesday guy. But I have good reasons. Wednesday is Residents Night. My friends are always there on Wednesday. I’m not much of a dancer but I love to just stand on the dance floor by myself with my eyes closed and let the loud music engulf me. I sway to the music, my feet stay earth bound. I usually take my shirt off because I can hear better that way, almost as if I was covered in millions of tiny ears. As I sway new details emerge from the music as micro ears are activated. Breathtaking.

Fair enough[]
Jun/21/08 08:32 AM
- I love my county fair. Were else can I get a chance to see a miracle mop demonstrated, inspect the blue ribbon winning cake, and hear America sing “A Horse With No Name” all at one place? It is truly summer.

Sunday mornings[]
Jun/22/08 06:54 AM
- Summer Sunday mornings. I sit out on the deck sipping my espresso and reading the newspaper. I scan the ads in the paper watching for the very first “back-to-school” mention. Back -to-school has become the latest shopping holiday. But I don’t look for that ominous warning because I want to shop. I do it because I am not in school and will not be returning to that institution. My summer will stretch into the fall and will only improve as the school age kids disappear from my haunts.

Greek mistake[]
Jun/26/08 10:48 AM
- I mistook a rumor for a reality. The Greek dates are only OFFERS and they have not been accepted as of yet. My most humble apologies for getting too excited.
- The problem being that Greece is a long way from the general Western Euro touring countires so it is expensive to take the show there.
Enjoy the rest of your summer[]
