The Residents Play Wormwood is a concert DVD by The Residents, filmed in Bonn, Germany, July 16th 1999, during the tour based on their concept album Wormwood.

History[]

The show was originally filmed as a webcast for Museumsmelle, on the second and final leg of the Wormwood tour. The DVD was released six years later on the 2nd of August 2005 by Euro Ralph, then in October by MVD, with a soundtrack mixed in 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound. The show's setlist represents an abridged form the orginaly and lenghty Wormwood setlist, cutting out two covers 'Un-American Band', 'Old Time Religion', as well as a Residents compositon 'Welcome To Wormwood (God's Business)'. Strangely, these songs are featured in the track listing on the back cover. The back cover also states that the footage originated "From a Web Cast for Museumsmeile".

Reception[]

Contemporary[]

Freelance music reviewer Mark Prindle described The Residents Play Wormwood as "a visual nightmare of bizarrities", praising the "blacklit colors", "beautiful stage ambience", "constant weirdo props... and tricks-of-the-eye" of the Wormwood Live show, while noting that "much of the music" is "purposefully ugly" and "just not terribly pleasant to listen to".[1]
