The River of Crime is a five episode serial drama/podcast originally released on iTunes via Cordless Recordings in 2006 by The Residents.
A noir/radio play-influenced serial with five episodes of approximately fifteen minutes in length each, The River of Crime was later physically released on CD by Mute.
History
The River of Crime was an attempt at a noir style of storytelling, with each episode depicting a different story involving a character who "collects" crimes.
It was originally released online as a five-episode podcast through both iTunes and Cordless Recordings' website. The Residents also sold a two-disc package of blank CD-Rs to burn the episodes and bonus material (via the Cordless site only) for those who wanted a standard audio disc.
Later, Mute Records issued a standard audio CD version, without the bonus material from the Cordless release, but with a bonus disc featuring instrumental versions of each of the episodes.
