The Serious Collection is an unreleased demo tape by Renaldo & The Loaf, which was recorded between Spring 1981 and July 1982, with a few copies being sent to Ralph Records prior to the recording of the duo's 1983 album Arabic Yodelling.
Most tracks on the tape were later reissued on various expanded editions of the duo's albums on Klanggalerie over thirty years later; Renaldo & The Loaf have said they have no intention of reissuing the tracks which remain exclusive to this tape.
The tracks prefixed by 'I' are instrumental studies. The last five tracks include readings of Dadaist poems by a friend of the group, Robert Bartlett, from local band Attic; Renaldo & The Loaf provide improvised musical backing.
