The Singing Resident is a generic name often ascribed to the lead singer of The Residents.

Biography[]

Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, this mysterious entity has handled vocals for The Residents since their origins as The Delta Nudes in the late 1960s. Throughout their career, he has been often referred to as The Singing Resident.

Following the theft and retirement of one of the group's eyeball masks in 1986, the Singing Resident began to wear a large skull mask (originating from the Vileness Fats film production), and was often referred to as Mr. Skull from that point onwards, appearing prominently in the group's performances, videos and artwork into the 21st century.

The Singing Resident began to operate as the character Randy Rose (along with the other members of the group as Charles Bobuck, Lionel Bob, and the recently-departed Carlos) in 2010, as part of the Talking Light tour.

Rose produced the one-man cabaret show Sam's Enchanted Evening in 2010. The group's Randy, Chuck and Bob Trilogy of tours continued with The Wonder of Weird in 2014, and concluded with Shadowland in 2016. Rose also released two solo singles on Psychofon Records in 2016, "Bigfoot Beware" and "For Maurice".

Following the conclusion of the Shadowland tour in 2016, the Rose persona was retired in favor of the more mysterious Tyrone. Rose occasionally continues to appear in video blogs, in which he insists he had been "fired" from the band under unexplained circumstances.

The most recent name ascribed to The Singing Resident is 'Whitey,' appearing on concept art created for the 2023 secret show.
