Tyrone was a pseudonym and persona used by The Singing Resident on The Residents' 2017-2019 In Between Dreams world tour, (and The Brick-Eaters performances.)
Unlike the fleshed out characters of Randy, Bunny or Mr. Skull before him, Tyrone is a mysterious blank slate, having only been recorded speaking on two occasions. The first was to alert the audience that the show would be cut short due to noise complaints.[1] The second was as a host for the 50th Anniversary secret show alongside other personae adopted by The Singing Resident such as Randy and Grandpa Elvis, which gave more insight into Tyrone's personality.
History[]
Tyrone was first mentioned in a Randy Rose vlog uploaded on March 15th 2017, during which Randy had discovered he had been replaced as the singer of The Residents by Tyrone.[2] A short clip posted to The Residents' YouTube account on March 30th corroborated this.[3]
"Tyrone" wore a cow pattern bodysuit, with a black polka dot belt, bowtie, and jacket. He also wore cow horns, sunglasses (with hidden cameras), and a big fake pig nose.
Outside of the In Between Dreams tour and related releases, Tyrone also appears on the interior of the Intruders gatefold, perhaps a reference to his intruder-like role in the later Randy Rose vlogs. He also appeared at live readings of The Residents' novel The Brick-Eaters, alongside Homer Flynn and the other "Real Residents".
A digitally animated puppet of Tyrone was featured as one of the virtual hosts for The Residents' 50th Anniversary secret show in a segment entitled Tyrone Contemplates Love, wherein he explains his paternal bond with his unseen daughter, and that his costume was inspired by her dressing up as Winnie the Pooh "disguised as a bunny" for Halloween at the age of five.[4]
