Meet The Residents Wiki

Unwaxed is a sampler album released by American record label East Side Digital. It contains selections from their upcoming 1991 catalog, including Serenade For Missy, from The Residents' Tunes of Two Cities album.

Background[]

In 1985, The Residents discovered CDs. They were interested in the medium, and signed to Rykodisc to release their Heaven? / Hell! compilation albums through it. The year following, The Residents gave permission to East Side Digital to release expanded CD editions of the band's classic albums. Following the slow collapse of Ralph Records, The Residents jumped from label to label, before finally settling with their old reliable friend, East Side Digital. Now that ESD had The Residents firmly on their label, they could release their first sampler album, with The Residents presented front and center on track one.

The sampler also features a number of selections from Resident collaborator Fred Frith. It also features some exclusive tracks, like Aeroplane, by Speed The Plough, Speed Of Sound by Anne Richmond Boston, When The Warcry Comes by Stewart & Gaskin & Little Things by The Skeletons.
