WOW Demos 2 (originally announced as The Wonder of Weird Demos 2) is a compilation album by The Residents, featuring demo recordings made in preparation for their 2013 tour The Wonder of Weird. It was released on Klanggalerie on December 28th 2021.
The two-disc set follows the earlier compilation album WOW Demos 1, which was released in November 2021. This collection includes later versions of the stripped-back demo versions featured on the earlier album, with additional guitar overdubs.
Release[]
The Wonder of Weird demos appear to have been originally released as "Easter eggs" hidden on various pages of The Residents' official website. The files as released on the website had only vague, unspecified filenames (ie. "page0_1") and were not announced by the group, leaving it up to "sleuths" to locate the files.
Lisa French (a Mysterious Spanish Lady and administrator of this wiki) had been supplied fifteen of the demos by fan Tom-Erik Løe on July 1st 2020, and had then uploaded them together in a video on her YouTube channel on the same day, identifying the individual tracks in the video description.
The release of The Wonder of Weird Demos on Klanggalerie was announced in January 2021. In May 2021, French downloaded another twenty-eight Wonder of Weird demos through the same file sharing program; these included eight more "page0" tracks, and twenty tracks titled "page3_x". The "page3" tracks featured the later, overdubbed versions of the previous demos.
French then sent the complete collection of 43 demos to Walter Robotka of Klanggalerie. The later "page3" demos formed the basis of a second compilation, WOW Demos 2. French received a "thank you" credit from Klanggalerie on the back cover art of both albums.
