Wormwood Live 1999 is a two-disc live album by The Residents, recorded in June and July 1999 on European dates of their live tour to support their 1998 concept album Wormwood: Curious Stories From The Bible.
The album was released by Ralph America in a limited edition of 1200 hand-numbered copies in December 1999. As Wormwood: Live In Europe 1999, it was later featured as the seventh and eighth discs of the 2022 pREServed box set Wormwood Box: Curious Stories From The Bible pREServed.
History[]
Nearly a decade after The Residents had retired from touring, the group found themselves flooded with requests from various promoters and venues to perform. One such venue was the legendary Fillmore auditorium, which commissioned the group to perform five shows on the week of Halloween 1997.
The Fillmore shows were very popular and successful, and so The Residents were invited back for Halloween 1998. These performances were hugely different from the previous year's, and instead were focused entirely on their Wormwood album of biblical retellings, which they had been working on in the year between performances.
The Residents and public were impressed with the Fillmore '98 shows, and as such, two tours were planned. A US tour in April 1999, and a European tour in the summer. The album was recorded on various dates throughout the European tour.
