"You Yesyesyes" (sometimes stylized "You YesYesYes") is a song by The Residents, which opens their 1977 album Fingerprince. Side A of the album closes with a reprise of the song, titled "You Yesyesyes Again".

Originating from the long-unreleased suite "Leapmus" (composed and recorded in February 1976), "You Yesyesyes" was first heard by the public at The Residents' first official live performance at Rather Ripped Records' fifth anniversary party in June 1976.

History[]

"You Yesyesyes" originates from the suite "Leapmus" (dated February 29th 1976), composed by The Residents' producer and arranger Hardy Fox as a gift for his then-wife Nessie Lessons. In the version heard in the suite, the piece runs over five minutes in duration.

Another arrangement of the song was composed in the middle of the year, specifically for use in The Residents' debut live performance (known as Oh Mummy! Oh Daddy!) at Rather Ripped Records' fifth anniversary party in Berkeley, California in June 1976. This version of the song is heavily reliant on a pre-recorded backing track; the group performed alongside the tape on percussion, guitar and violin.

The best known version of the song was recorded in October 1976, and features Snakefinger on lead guitar.[1] This version of the song opens Side A of The Residents' fourth studio album Fingerprince; the side closes with a two-and-a-half-minute edit of the "Leapmus" version of the song, which is here titled "You Yesyesyes Again".

The backing track of the Oh Mummy! arrangement of the song was issued separately on the 2018 pREServed expanded and remastered version of Fingerprince (which also saw the debut release of "Leapmus").
